【摘要】:Environmentaltobaccosmokeconsistsofbothvaporandparticulatephasecomponents.Duetothenatureofvaporandparticulatephases,theyrarelycorrelatewell,andanaccurateassessmentofETSlevelsinindoorairrequiresdetermininggoodtracersofbothphases.AmongtheattributesofanidealETStracer,onecriticalcharacteristicisthatthetracershouldx201C;remaininafairlyconsistentratiototheindividualcontaminantofinterestorcategoryofcontaminantsofinterest(forexample,suspendedparticulates)underarangeofenvironmentalconditions...x201D;(5).Solanesolmeetsthisrequirement,stayinginaconstantratiototheRSPcontributedbytobaccosmokeoveravarietyofventilationconditionsandsamplingdurations(6).UVPMandFPM,whicharethetracersormarkersemployedbyTestMethodD5955,alsofulfillthisrequirement.Airbornesolanesol,however,isuniqueinthatitisspecifictotobaccosmokeandisfoundonlyintheparticulatephaseofETS.Itshighmolecularweightandlowvolatilitymakeitextremelyunlikelythatanysolanesolwillbelostfromthemembranefilterusedforsamplecollection.Solanesolconstitutesapproximately3%byweightoftheRSPofETS(2,7,8),makingitsuitableformeasurementatrealisticsmokingrates.OftheavailableETSparticulatephasemarkers(UVPM,FPM,andsolanesol),allarecurrentlyusedandreliedupon,butsolanesolisconsideredtobeabettermarkerfortheparticulatephaseofETSand,asaresult,providesthebestwayofquantifyingthecontributionofETSparticulatemattertoRSP(3,4,9,10,11,12,13).TobeabletoquantifythecontributionofETStoRSPwithatobacco-specificmarkerisimportantbecauseRSPisnotspecifictotobaccosmoke.RSPisanecessaryindicatorofoverallairquality;theOccupationalSafetyandHealthAdministration(OSHA)haspreviouslysetaPEL(permissibleexposurelevel)forrespirabledustintheworkplaceof5000x03BC;g/m3.However,RSPemanatesfromnumeroussources(14)andhasbeenshowntobeaninappropriatetracerofETS(7,15,16,17).UVPMandFPMareusedasmoreselectivemarkerstoestimatethecontributionoftobaccosmoketoRSP;however,thesemarkerscanoverestimatethecontributionoftobaccosmoketoRSPduetopotentialinterferencefromnontobaccocombustionsources.(RefertoTestMethodD5955fortheprotocolondeterminingUVPMandFPM.)AlthoughUVPMandFPMareusefulininvestigationsofindoorairquality,solanesolisabetterindicatorofthetobaccosmokecontributiontoRSP.ThistestmethodhasbeenusedtoapportionRSPintoETSandnon-ETScomponentsbydeterminingtheweightratioofsolanesoltototalRSP(2,3,4,7,18,19).1.1Thistestmethodcoversthesampling/analysisofrespirablesuspendedparticles(RSP)andtheestimationoftheRSPfractionattributabletoenvironmentaltobaccosmoke(ETS).ThetestmethodisbasedoncollectionoftotalRSPonamembranefilter,extractionofthefilterinmethanol,anddeterminationofsolanesol,aC45isoprenoidalcohol,byhighperformanceliquidchromatography(HPLC)withultraviolet(UV)detection.1.2ThistestmethodiscompatiblewiththedeterminationsofgravimetricRSP,ultravioletparticulatematter(UVPM),andfluorescentparticulatematter(FPM)(seeTestMethodD5955),butdoesnotrequireth......
